Le village de Tombo prospère dans la péninsule de Freetown depuis l’époque précoloniale; ses habitants vivent de la mer tout en prenant soin de celle-ci afin qu’elle continue à nourrir les générations futures. Seulement, depuis des décennies, cette richesse est en déclin en raison de l’afflux de chalutiers asiatiques pratiquant la surpêche sur leurs côtes avec le soutien clandestin de fonctionnaires corrompus. Les femmes du village perdent leur travail, car la plupart d’entre elles gagnent leur vie en transformant les prises et en les vendant au marché; Leurs maris et leurs fils sont souvent contraints d’abandonner la pêche à Tombo et de chercher du travail dans d’autres pays. Sullay et Woodie s’efforcent d’unir leur communauté fragilisée, mais y parviendront-ils face à ces puissants obstacles ?

To inspire affected communities to take ownership and engage in a national discussion on the issues of illegal fishing and sand-mining, marine and mangrove protection, climate change and food security.

We wish to inspire affected communities to take ownership and engage in a national discussion on the issues of illegal fishing and sand-mining, marine and mangrove protection, climate change and food security.
Impact Goals
  1. Enable communities to understand the causes of fish scarcity and the threats to food security.
  2. Inspire communities to take ownership. Engage in a national discussion on the issues of climate change and illegal fishing. Ignite discussions
  3. around a sustainable future for the environment, conservation, biodiversity, marine and mangrove protection.
  4. Empower the Fishermen’s Union with the tools and skills to document and report illegal
  5. activities in our waters and also set up a mobile community cinema in the Union’s office, for further screenings, community outreach, education and campaign purposes.
  6. Help communities to understand some of the threats that climate poses on livelihoods. Understanding community adaptation and resilience mechanisms.
Impact Strategy
  • Build conservation links between the Tombo community and international conservation groups.
  • Conduct a series of community screenings and discussion events in communities around the Freetown area, provincial towns and cities countrywide in partnership with the network of
  • community leaders and organisations.
  • Host the Sierra Leone Environmental Film Summit bringing together various stakeholders to have a national conversation on the issues
  • surrounding the film.
