Policing and Human Rights: Order or Disorder?

Ticket

Thursday 12 March – 18h30
Espace Pitoëff - Librairie
Rue de Carouge 52, 1205 Geneva

This roundtable looks at the strained relationship between the public and the authorities in a climate shaped by controversial policing practices. How can trust be rebuilt? And how can fundamental rights be protected in practice?

As tensions around the right to protest continue to rise, this Café des Libertés offers an open exchange on how policing practices, and, in particular, the disproportionate use of force, affect trust between the public and the authorities. Conceived as a safe and inclusive space, it brings together diverse perspectives, including voices from within the police, to examine what public order policing looks like in practice and to identify approaches that are more transparent and more cooperative. How can the right to protest be fully respected? What levers exist to reduce tensions and improve practice? And how can mutual trust be rebuilt in contexts that are increasingly polarised?
