Chatila and Reda are Palestinian cousins who have fled Lebanon’s Ain al-Hilweh camp. Stranded in Athens, undocumented and caught between hope and despair, they try every scheme they can to gather enough money for fake passports—tickets to Germany, where they dream of finally starting their lives. But as they spiral deeper into increasingly risky tactics, they’re forced to sacrifice parts of themselves in pursuit of a better future. A fast-paced, thriller-like film that is both tragic and insightful about migrant realities, To a Land Unknown is Mahdi Fleifel’s first fiction feature, adding a crucial chapter to the powerful Palestinian narrative he has been constructing through his previous short films and documentaries.

Presented in collaboration with the Human Rights Swiss Network (FIFDH Geneva, FFDUL Lugano, HRFF Zurich).
