Impact Statement
Guided by the slogan “change ni sisi” (we are the change), the impact campaign aimed to create a community of Kenyan citizens who were informed and emboldened to challenge the status quo through the power of their vote using various mediums such as theatrical releases, community screenings, online and TV broadcasts, and a robust social media engagement. Ultimately, based on the feedback we received from audiences across the country, we were able to fill a much-needed gap during the election period by creating a citizens’ handbook, which is a website that provides practical information on understanding the role of elected leaders as per the new constitution, keeping them accountable, and supporting community activists.
To provoke conversation and increase civic engagement by providing Kenyan audiences with an opportunity to unpack their role as voters and bring new light to the role of activism and activists across the globe.
Impact Goals
- To provoke conversation and provide audiences with an opportunity to unpack their role as voters.
- To increase civic engagement in demanding accountable and transparent leadership.
- To bring new light to the role of activism and inspire a new generation of activists across the globe.
Impact Strategy

- Offer the film as a contribution to the many organizations, campaigns, and foot soldiers working hard on the issue of democracy, progressive politics, and active citizenship.
- The film’s portrayal of Mwangi’s journey is a testament to the power of activism and the importance of fighting for one’s beliefs.
