Ales Bialiatski heads the Human Rights Centre Viasna, the main human rights organisation in Belarus. He is also the Vice-President of the International Federation for Human Rights (FIDH). Imprisoned for 1052 days for “tax evasion”, he was amnestied in 2014 following international pressure. In 2020, he was awarded the prestigious Right Livelihood Award, widely regarded as the alternative Nobel Prize.
