Women and War

Women and War explores the psychological toll of war through the personal journeys of four women – Julia, Lena, Iryna, and Olena – who have survived the horrors of Russia’s war against Ukraine. Over two years, the film follows them through therapy sessions in the remote Ukrainian Carpathian Mountains, where they gradually begin to heal under the guidance of therapists and psychologists. These sessions form the emotional core of the film, capturing intimate moments as the women confront their traumas and work toward recovery. Women and War is a universal story of resilience and courage in the face of war’s devastation, told entirely from a female perspective.

Impact Statement
Women and War is urgent because, even as the war in Ukraine continues, its deepest consequences - after four years - are already present yet too often overlooked. While political attention focuses on battlefields and fragile peace negotiations, women who have survived captivity, torture, and sexual violence are left to bear the war’s weight in their bodies and daily lives, often without access to long-term care. This film and campaign intervene at a crucial moment, calling for sustained responsibility and helping to build concrete infrastructure for trauma healing.
