This Is Not a Civil War

Hnin, 26, a Burmese activist exiled in Thailand after the 2021 coup and her participation in anti-junta protests, returns clandestinely to Myanmar to observe the evolution of the revolution in her country. In the jungles and cities, she discovers a young generation fighting to rebuild the country without weapons, through education, healthcare, and independent or clandestine media. Amid bombings, air raids, and ruins, everyday acts such as teaching, healing, and informing become revolutionary gestures. The film explores this invisible but essential resistance, where courage and solidarity intertwine to preserve life, hope, and freedom. Through Hnin’s journey, it shows how a generation, plunged into war, chooses to create and protect rather than destroy, laying the foundations for a democratic future under the fire of oppression.

Impact Statement
By following the community of Demoso, the film shows how resistance can lie in everyday gestures and collective acts. We want to celebrate these quiet forms of resistance while helping younger generations recognize threats to democracy in a world of growing authoritarianism and international influence. We aim to open discussions about what “taking action” means. Even from far away, people can act. By standing with local organizations, sharing reliable information or signing petitions, they can take part in a broader, collective effort to push for political and economic pressure that protects democratic voices.
