The entire FIFDH team is relieved to learn of the release of Hamdan Ballal, co-director of the Oscar-winning documentary No Other Land, after he was assaulted by Israeli settlers and subsequently arrested by the Israeli army on Monday 24 March, in the West Bank.

Directed by a collective of four Palestinian-Israeli activists, this film follows Basel, who documents the occupation and destruction of his village in the West Bank. He is joined by Yuval, a young Israeli activist—between distrust and anger, an impossible friendship emerges. Last Octobrer, the FIFDH had the opportunity to present the documentary in partnership with Ciné-doc at the Cinémas du Grütli. This film remains deeply relevant in light of Israel’s ongoing aggression and violations of human rights.

On Saturday 29 March, at 8:00 PM, Cinémas du Grütli will host a screening of No Other Land, which takes on even greater significance in light of recent events. In collaboration with Cinémas du Grütli, Visions du Réel, and Ciné-Doc, this screening becomes a renewed moment of solidarity with Hamdan Ballal and the entire film team, as well as a tribute to the courage of those who, through cinema, defend justice, dignity, and freedom of expression.

We remain deeply concerned about the threats facing artists, journalists, and human rights defenders in the occupied territories.
