Igualada
Rue de Carouge 72 1205 Geneva
Join Ciné-ONU, the CAGI and the FIFDH for a screening and discussion on the story of Francia Márquez, human rights and environment defender elected Vice-President of Colombia. The screening will be followed by a discussion on the political participation of marginalised communities in contemporary democracies.
The film:
Step into the heart of Colombia’s most electrifying political battle. Igualada follows Francia Márquez – once dismissed as an “igualada,” an outsider who dares to reach too high – as she transforms an insult into a rallying cry for justice, dignity, and representation. With gripping real-life footage and intimate storytelling, the film captures a movement rising from the margins to shake the foundations of power.
The discussion:
From invisibility to influence: how can we ensure political participation for marginalized communities in contemporary democracies?
With:
- H.E. Gustavo Gallón, Ambassador of Colombia to the United Nations in Geneva
- Sara Hamood, Chief of the Anti-Racial Discrimination Section, Office of the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights
Free entrance. The discussion will take place in English.
