Ten years ago, activists wanting to experiment with a collective way of life took over a wooded area near Nantes to block the construction of a new airport. The film paints an empathetic portrait of the “zadists”, who wonder about the future of the ‘Zone à défendre’ when, in 2018, their struggle lead to a first victory: the abandonment of the airport project. The Spark follows several of these residents during this crucial year for their movement, and asks whether other forms of society are possible.
