Hong Kong’s New Heroes
For the past 10 months, the students in Hong Kong have been out on the streets, day after day, night after night. Now familiar with violence, they know the smell of tear gas well. Neighbourhoods have been transformed into battlefields, up against a police force which does not shrink away from using violence – a great deal of violence. Who are these young people fighting against an authoritarian power? The Dutch filmmaker and journalist Floris-Jan van Luyn, who knows the region like the back of his hand, feels the pulse of the city and offers us rarely seen, virtually raw footage.
