Where Are You?

In the summer of 2014 Italian photographer Massimo Sestini was on board an Italian Navy ship patrolling the waters between Italy’s southern coast and Libya. He was there to shoot search and rescue operations of the migrants crossing the sea between Lybia and Italy. His mission was to capture the aerial image he had been trying to take for a year. Sestini flew over a boat carrying 500 migrants, and captured the look of relief and joy as all the people on board looked up and understood they were safe. The image went on to win a World Press Photo award and was selected as one of TIME magazine’s Top 10 Photos for 2015. Five years on, as thousands continue to risk their lives to cross the Mediterranean, Sestini wants to find out what happened to the people on that boat. He wants to take portraits of them and tell their stories.
