Meet the Impact Days at DocsBarcelona
Come and meet Ana Castañosa Bielsa, Head of Impact Days in Spain! She will be joining DocsBarcelona for the panel: Reframing Impact: Creative Documentary as an Agent of Change.
There is a tendency to use impact campaign as a shorthand for a strategic communications tool tied to a narrow form of cinema: activist films driven by the messaging priorities of NGOs and advocacy groups. This common misconception creates a false binary between cinema that mobilizes reasoning through explicit messages and cinema that mobilizes emotions through the force of artwork.
Creative documentaries can shift what a community sees, says, and even imagines. To truly change how audiences engage with the world, impact work needs the same creativity and formal inventiveness as the films themselves. How can strategies for impact respect the complexity of creative documentary storytelling?
Together with leading impact experts Julian Etienne (DOC SOCIETY), Kristie Robinson (Lupa Impact Agency), and a group of inspiring filmmakers — Patience Nitumwesiga (The Woman Who Poked the Leopard, 2025) and Mohamed Jabaly (Life is Beautiful – Gilda Vieira de Mello Award 2024), Ana will explore how creative documentaries can drive meaningful change.
