In a phantasmagorical Africa, the protagonists, through unexpected adventures, find a way to help each other break their curse. Filled with magical realism, Baloji’s debut feature is a powerful ode to formal creativity that questions the issue of patriarchy in the Democratic Republic of Congo.

In the early 20th century, three men set off on an horseback expedition across the Tierra del Fuego archipelago at the request of a wealthy landowner, charged with securing his vast property designated by the State. Through breathtaking landscapes and borrowing from Western codes, The Settlers is a visceral confrontation with the myth of nationhood and the violence that accompanies it.
