Santosh

A rural region in northern India. After the death of her husband, Santosh inherited his position in the Indian police force, under the “compassionate recruitment” law in force in the country. This law makes it possible to inherit a position in the civil service after the death of one’s spouse, including the police. When she is called to the scene of the murder of a young girl from a lower caste, Santosh finds herself plunged into a tortuous investigation alongside the charismatic Inspector Sharma, who takes her under her wing. With her unique talent, filmmaker Sandhya Suri explores a daily life where the caste system, religious intolerance, misogyny and corruption all exist side by side.
