On the eve of the division of Sudan, wracked by guilt after killing a South Sudanese man in a car accident, Mona, a former singer from North Sudan, tries to redeem herself by taking in Julia, the widow of the deceased, and her son as her employee. Unable to confess her crime to her husband, let alone to Julia, Mona decides to put the past behind her and adapt to her new situation. Little does she know that the unrest sweeping the country will cause her to confront demons. The film deals with the lives of two women linked by unexpected social and political situations. Driven by a desire for reconciliation and supported by the actress Lupita Nyong’o, it is a journey through the collective memory of the peoples of North and South Sudan.
