Gender-based violence: ending silence and shame
Several recent trials have captured public attention, exposing abuses previously hidden or ignored. Women have always spoken out, yet their voices have often been muted, scorned, or discredited. These acts of violence are not isolated incidents; they reveal a “banality of evil” deeply embedded in our social structures. Whether in families, workplaces, or institutions, perpetrators are all too frequently protected. Breaking this cycle involves not only institutional reforms but also shifting mindsets to hear, believe, and protect those who speak up. A fairer, more equitable society cannot emerge without a break from the status quo.

L'Emprise des sentiments
Working in a partner violence and gender violence support service, Nadia, Audrey, and Sandrine assist victims of domestic and family abuse. Tucked away in an attic in the heart of Liège, they welcome women from varied backgrounds: some remain in immediate danger, others are rebuilding their lives, but all have been deeply shaken by the violence they’ve experienced. Whether they come once, twice, or for months or years, this association provides a space to share their painful experiences, make sense of them, realise they’re not alone, and begin to reclaim their sense of identity.
