Norah

A secluded village in 1990s Saudi Arabia welcomes Nader, a new teacher who secretly paints. He encounters Norah, a spirited young woman who reawakens his artistic drive and pushes him to pick up the brush once more. Despite the danger, the two forge a discreet and delicate bond. As Nader opens Norah’s eyes to the wider world beyond her cloistered environment, she realises she must leave to find a place where she can fully express herself as an artist. In Norah, Tawfik Alzaidi depicts the creative relationship between a painter and his muse in conservative 1990s Saudi Arabia, exploring humanity’s fundamental need to communicate through art in all its forms.
