Israel-Palestine: what common future is possible?

The Middle East is living through dark times. The crimes committed by Hamas on 7 October 2023 in southern Israel led to a relentless Israeli response in Gaza. South Africa has appealed to the International Court of Justice, accusing the Israeli army of committing “genocide”. How can we imagine peaceful coexistence between Israelis and Palestinians when, at the time of writing, the dead are still adding to the dead and a regional conflagration cannot be ruled out? In spite of this situation, Israelis and Palestinians are working to think and work towards building peace.

BROKEN - A Palestinian Journey Through International Law
A wall more than 700km long separates Palestine from Israel, a construction deemed illegal by the International Court of Justice. Yet despite the ban, construction of the wall has continued. BROKEN – A Palestinian Journey Through International Law draws on the accounts and testimonies of legal experts, judges of the International Court of Justice, diplomats and even the Israeli military officer who ordered the construction of the wall, to demonstrate the contradictions in the application of international law. BROKEN was inspired and produced by a former United Nations expert who monitored the humanitarian consequences of the wall.
