The Indigenous Impact Alliance: Multiple Films for Collective Impact
Rue de Carouge 52, 1205 Geneva
Impact campaigns typically focus on a single film – but what if we united multiple films, each offering a unique perspective on the same issue? Could a coordinated strategy generate lasting momentum, strengthen existing resources, and fill critical gaps to create even greater impact?
Over the past year, the Indigenous Impact Alliance – a collaborative platform emerging from Doc Society’s coordinated impact initiative – has amplified North American Native voices and stories through five award-winning documentaries. Together, these films have not only elevated Indigenous narratives but also driven meaningful action within communities.
In this case study, impact strategist Marianna Olinger (The Territory, How to Blow Up a Pipeline, Yanuni) and Amber Morning Star Byers, impact producer of the acclaimed documentary Sugarcane, will reflect on the initiative’s lessons. They’ll discuss what succeeded, what challenges arose, and how future collaborations can build on this model. Join them as they explore the power of shared resources, the realities of coordination, and why collective action outperforms working in isolation – or competition.
