Home is Somewhere Else

Home is Somewhe Else is an award-winning independent animation that tells three endearing stories of young people who share similar fears, hopes and emotions around living the undocumented experience: Jasmine, an 11 year-old girl who goes to the White House to fight for her right to keep her family together; Sisters Evelyn and Elizabeth – a US citizen and an undocumented immigrant respectively – separated by their different migratory status; and José Eduardo Aguilar ‘El Deportee’, who after being deported from his home state of Utah to Mexico at age 23 has turned his Spanglish into a weapon of activism to defend his generation of deportees through his spoken word poetry. Through the real voices of our young protagonists, the film is more profoundly able to speak about the complexities and challenges faced by undocumented youth and their families in today’s world.
