Justice in the Land of Fog

Laura Dauden

Dawn breaks over the Colombian highlands, fog lifting from the mountains. An anonymous voice emerges, carrying the collective testimony of women falsely accused of terrorism and rebellion. Old family footage shows children once running free through green fields while one question remains suspended: what did they do?

Below, in the city, Juliana (26), a law student, community leader and single mother, faces her own criminal proceedings for her part in the 2021 national uprising. After five years of delays, her trial nears, her daughter dancing through the boredom of each online hearing. Meanwhile, journalist Juanita (34) senses a new far-right force rising towards the presidency. Investigating the mechanisms of judicial persecution against dissent, she traces a system whose pieces include Juliana’s case. As Juanita’s work nears completion and Juliana’s trial approaches, past and present collide, and the line between guilt and innocence grows harder to trace.
