Bye bye Tiberias

At the age of 20, Hiam left her village in Palestine to become an actress. Several years later, her daughter Lina made a film about her mother, her exile and her family. With strength, intimacy and emotion, Lina rediscovers her own story. Through her mother’s story, archive footage and videos of her childhood, Lina forges links between the women in her family and the memory and history of Palestine. Bye bye Tiberias is a journey through four generations of audacious Palestinian women who preserve their personal and collective memory through the strength of their bonds, despite exile, expropriation and upheaval.
Screened at the Venice Film Festival and the Toronto Film Festival, and in the running to represent Palestine at the 2024 Oscars.
