Israel-Palestine: what prospects for peace? Over a century ago, in 1915, the British promised the Sharif of Mecca the creation of an independent Arab state encompassing Palestine. Two years later, contradicting that vow, London pledged to establish a Jewish national home in Palestine. After so many conflicts, including the appalling human disaster of recent months, will this war ever end? Could today’s geopolitical upheavals in the Middle East open new possibilities? This is the focus of our discussion, as Saudi Arabia and France prepare to co-chair an international conference next June aimed at unifying all two-state solution initiatives. Could this overly promised land finally become a land of peace?
