Son of the Streets

Khodor, a Palestinian teenager, grows up without an ID in the Shatila refugee camp in Beirut. He is stateless and unable to get an education, health care, or to leave the camp. As we follow Khodor from ages 14 to 18, we understand that he is cool and relaxed in front of his friends. But at home, his family feels his pent-up aggression from his situation. He lives with his stepmother, who has struggled for years with his half-sisters to get him an ID that will give him the right to live in Lebanon. In the struggle to get this citizenship, harrowing family secrets come to light. Son of the Streets shows how Khodor’s dream of a self-determined life is controlled by outdated laws, leaving him at a crossroads between having a nationality and rights or remaining forever in the camps that are ridden with crime and drugs.

- Create documents with legal information to distribute amongst refugee communities and local areas in Lebanon. -Screen the film in safe spaces across Lebanon with refugee and local communities.
- Challenge the hurdles of a law change in Lebanon and find ways and solutions to allow it to reach a stage of policy change.
- Contact international human rights organisations to pressure the Lebanese government to adopt International law regarding statelessness.
