Omen - Closing ceremony

Omen
Omen

The prolific Belgian-Congolese musician and artist Baloji makes a grand entrance into the world of cinema, taking us on a spellbinding cinematic journey that tells the story of Koffi, who returns to the Congo after 15 years’ absence to introduce his pregnant wife Alice to his family. His stay is marked by various encounters involving witchcraft. In a phantasmagorical Africa, the protagonists, through unexpected adventures, find a way to help each other break their curse. Filled with magical realism, Baloji’s debut feature is a powerful ode to formal creativity that questions the issue of patriarchy in the Democratic Republic of Congo. Omen won the New Voice Prize at the Cannes Film Festival in 2023.

Theatrical release in French-speaking Switzerland on May 8, 2024.
