Impact Statement
At least 200 million girls and women alive today have undergone female genital mutilation. An additional 2 million girls could be at risk by 2030 due to COVID-19, resulting in a 33 per cent reduction in the progress toward ending this harmful practice. Our final goal is to create an environment for meaningful audience engagement and post-screening discussion. For the general African audience, especially in the rural areas, the goal is to empower each and every single individual to make a change by taking action. For the broader Western audience, we will advise how they can support efficient NGOs in this field - focusing on local organizations.

Our goals are to fight against FGM and drawing attention to the consequences. Furthermore we want to empower affected women and to show them that it might be possible to overcome such a traumatic experience like Sara, our protagonist, did.
Impact Goals
  1. To fight against FGM drawing attention to the physical and psychological consequences of FGM and to raise international and national awareness of FGM.
  2. To empower girls and women who have experienced FGM and to show them that it might be possible to overcome such a traumatic experience like Sara, our protagonist, did.
Impact Strategy
  • Screenings with NGOs in Switzerland.
  • Cooperation with NGOs who work in countries where FGM is still practiced.
  • It’s important the film is shown to communities where FGM happens, and that these screenings are accompanied by experts in order to empower victims.
  • National screenings in cinemas.
  • International screenings.
  • Connect the protagonist (Sara) with NGOs who can help her to build up her own foundation.
  • Screenings in countries where FGM is still practiced.
  • Organize a closed screening with Sara and other victims, where they can talk openly about FGM.
