Two advisory circles and a thematic committee also play integral roles in sustaining the Festival\u2019s existence.<\/h2>\n<\/div>\n\n\n<div style=\"height:var(--wp--preset--spacing--70)\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n<div class=\"row \">\n      <div class=\"col-12 col-lg-6 col-xl-5 col-xxl-4 mx-auto mb-4\">\n              <div class=\"fs-72 text-center mb-4 lh-xs\">Barbara<br>Hendricks<\/div>\n                          <div class=\"text-center font-monospace mb-3\">Soprano and activist<\/div>\n                    <div class=\"text-center\"><p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">Barbara Hendricks has performed on <\/span>has graced the world&#8217;s most prestigious opera stages, performing under the direction of leading conductors of our time.<span class=\"s1\"> After almost 20 years of tireless service to the cause of refugees in collaboration with the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees, she received the title of Honorary Life Ambassador of the UNHCR. <\/span>Barbara Hendricks has been a frequent participant in the FIFDH and has served as a patron of the festival for numerous years.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n          <\/div>\n      <div class=\"col-12 col-lg-6 col-xl-5 col-xxl-4 mx-auto mb-4\">\n              <div class=\"fs-72 text-center mb-4 lh-xs\">Gael<br>Garc\u00eda Bernal<\/div>\n                          <div class=\"text-center font-monospace mb-3\">Actor and director<\/div>\n                    <div class=\"text-center\"><p class=\"p1\">Mexican actor and director, Gael Garc\u00eda Bernal has worked with renowned directors such as Pedro Almod\u00f3var, Michel Gondry, Alfonso Cuar\u00f3n and Alejandro Gonz\u00e1lez I\u00f1\u00e1rritu. As an activist, he is committed to <span class=\"s1\">safeguarding <\/span>democracy and human rights by defending the cause of migrants and indigenous peoples.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">He is also the founder of the festival\u00a0<i>Ambulante Gira de documentales<\/i>. Gael Garc\u00eda Bernal has participated twice in the FIFDH: in 2016, he spoke at an accomodation centre for migrant people in Geneva. In 2018, alongside Mexican activists, he denounced impunity in Mexico on the Festival stage.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n          <\/div>\n      <div class=\"col-12 col-lg-6 col-xl-5 col-xxl-4 mx-auto mb-4\">\n              <div class=\"fs-72 text-center mb-4 lh-xs\">Abigail<br>Disney<\/div>\n                          <div class=\"text-center font-monospace mb-3\">Filmmaker, producer, philanthropist and activist<\/div>\n                    <div class=\"text-center\"><p class=\"p1\">Filmmaker, producer, philanthropist and passionate activist, Abigail Disney <span class=\"s1\">has devoted <\/span>her life to social justice, peace processes and women\u2019s empowerment. In 2009, she <span class=\"s1\">founded<\/span> Fork Films, and produced the series\u00a0<i>Women, War and Peace, Citizen Koch<\/i>, <span class=\"s1\">critiquing <\/span>the Tea Party,\u00a0<i>The Invisible War<\/i>, which denounced sexual abuse in the army, and\u00a0<i>Cameraperson<\/i>, awarded the Oscar for the <span class=\"s1\">Best Documentary. <\/span>She has publicly <span class=\"s1\">criticized<\/span> the tax cuts she will benefit from in the United States, as well as the misogyny and racism of her great uncle, Walt Disney. In 2018, Abigail Disney <span class=\"s1\">she served as President of the FIFDH Documentary Jury.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n          <\/div>\n      <div class=\"col-12 col-lg-6 col-xl-5 col-xxl-4 mx-auto mb-4\">\n              <div class=\"fs-72 text-center mb-4 lh-xs\">Rithy<br>Panh<\/div>\n                          <div class=\"text-center font-monospace mb-3\">Director, producer, screenwriter and editor<\/div>\n                    <div class=\"text-center\"><p class=\"p1\">Cambodian filmmaker, Rithy Panh is <span class=\"s1\">renowned <\/span>for his films\u00a0<i>Les gens de la rizi\u00e8re<\/i>,\u00a0<i>La Terre des \u00e2mes errantes<\/i>,\u00a0<i>S21<\/i>,\u00a0<i>Le papier ne peut pas envelopper la braise<\/i>\u00a0and\u00a0<i>L\u2019Image manquante<\/i>.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">A survivor of the Khmer Rouge labour camps, he went into exile in 1979 in Thailand and arrived in France in 1980 where he graduated from IDHEC in 1985. His work is imbued with the memory and pain of genocide survivors. A <span class=\"s1\">frequent<\/span> guest at the FIFDH, Rithy Panh <span class=\"s1\">presented on numerous occasions<\/span><i> : Exile<\/i>\u00a0in 2017 and\u00a0<i>Les Tombeaux sans noms<\/i>\u00a0in 2019.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n          <\/div>\n      <div class=\"col-12 col-lg-6 col-xl-5 col-xxl-4 mx-auto mb-4\">\n              <div class=\"fs-72 text-center mb-4 lh-xs\">Ruth<br>Dreifuss<\/div>\n                          <div class=\"text-center font-monospace mb-3\">&#8220;Parti socialiste&#8221; member and former federal councillor<\/div>\n                    <div class=\"text-center\"><p class=\"p1\">Ruth Dreifuss was the first woman elected President of the Swiss Confederation in 1999. From 1993 to 2002, she <span class=\"s1\">served as the <\/span>Federal Councillor and head of the Federal Department of Home Affairs.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">Ruth Dreifuss <span class=\"s1\">remains <\/span>active in several non-governmental and international <span class=\"s1\">organisations<\/span>, including the World Commission on Drug Policy and the International Commission against the Death Penalty. A loyal guest of FIFDH g, Ruth Dreifuss has participated in the festival on numerous occasions.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n          <\/div>\n      <div class=\"col-12 col-lg-6 col-xl-5 col-xxl-4 mx-auto mb-4\">\n              <div class=\"fs-72 text-center mb-4 lh-xs\">Feu S\u00e9rgio <br>Vieira de Mello<\/div>\n                          <div class=\"text-center font-monospace mb-3\">Brazilian international civil servant<\/div>\n                    <div class=\"text-center\"><p class=\"p1\">Brazilian diplomat, S\u00e9rgio Vieira de Mello was appointed United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights in 2002. S\u00e9rgio Vieira de Mello was tragically killed by a suicide attack in August 2003 in Baghdad. <span class=\"s1\">Prior to his untimely death, he served as the first patron of the FIFDH in March 2003 and <\/span>stated: \u201c<i>I am delighted with this initiative to create the first Human Rights Film Festival in Geneva, just as I encourage every effort to promote respect for human rights in all circumstances and in all societies.
