After the death of her husband, Santosh inherited his position in the Indian police force, under the &#8220;compassionate recruitment&#8221; law in force in the country. This law makes it possible to inherit a position in the civil service after the death of one&#8217;s spouse, including the police. When she is called to the scene of the murder of a young girl from a lower caste, Santosh finds herself plunged into a tortuous investigation alongside the charismatic Inspector Sharma, who takes her under her wing.
