From Venezuela to Bhutan, the Human Rights Film Tour 2019

The second year of the Human Rights Film Tour, the FIFDH's world tour organised in partnership with the Federal Department of Foreign Affairs (FDFA) and the Republic and Canton of Geneva, ended on 10 December in Antanarivo (Madagascar) with a screening of the documentary Crime Hunters.

A week earlier, the documentary by Juan José Lozano and Nicolas Wadimoff was screened in Caracas as part of this international tour. Organized jointly by the Embassy of Switzerland in Venezuela and the association Comité de Familiares de las Víctimas (COFAVIC), this screening was held in the presence of Isabelle Gattiker, General and Artistic Director of the FIFDH.

Crime hunters documents the work of TRIAL-NGO lawyers, who hunt down war criminals and fight injustice and impunity. A subject that resonates with the current situation in Venezuela. In the discussion following the film, Venezuelan MP Angel Medina, human rights defender Yris Medina and Nerma Jelacic, member of the Commission for International Justice, provided their views on transitional justice and the situation in Venezuela.

In 2019, the Human Rights Film Tour stopped in eight cities on four continents. Four Swiss films on issues such as the death penalty, workers' rights or women's rights were screened around the world, from Argentina to Bhutan, Moldova or the Democratic Republic of Congo. In the spirit of the FIFDH, each screening is followed by a discussion in the presence of national or international guests.

Launched in 2018 on the occasion of the 70th anniversary of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, in partnership with the FDFA and the Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights, the Human Rights Film Tour will continue in 2020. The Tour will stop in Phnom Penh, Amman, Juba and Dakar. Since 2018, more than 50 cities in as many countries have hosted the FIFDH for the screening of a Swiss film and a discussion on a human rights issue.
