Bruno Boudjelal, artist in residence of FIFDH 2019

Photograph Bruno Boudjelal, member of the renowned Agence VU', is in the spotlight at the 17th edition of the Festival.

Every year, the FIFDH honours an artist who then takes up residence, in partnership with the municipality of Meyrin, to create an original work of art. Following Rithy Panh in 2017 and Guy Delisle 2018, the Festival has the pleasure of hosting the photographer Bruno Boudjelal, member of the famous Agence VU'.

Of French and Algerian origin, Bruno Boudjelal was born in 1961 in Montreuil. In 1993, he travels to Algeria to trace back his paternal roots. This investigation became the starting point of his most personal work, which led him to explore both monochrome and colour, as well as affirming the subjectivity of his point of view. His work is notably focused on the question of identity, between singularity and its place in collective history.

A committed artist and ardent defender of pan-africanism, Bruno Boujelal never ceases to question his identity and confronts us with our own. At the festival, he will unveil his project « Ne mourrons pas fatigués », which tackles the question of migratory currents through narration and personal testimony. A light on the resilience that men and women have shown in their recent or past migratory journeys.

The complete work will be exhibited at the Cairn in Meyrin, from 9 March to 7 April 2019. The vernissage will be hosted on Sunday 10 March at 17:00 in the presence of the artist.

A parallel exhibition will take place on the Mont-Blanc pedestrian zone from 8 March to 17 March 2019. We will also host a public interview with the photographer at the Espace Pitoëff - Théâtre on Saturday 9 March.
